Podcasting 2.x
Support for the Podcasting 2.0 standard is now available to all our podcast packages.
Embracing community standards to reach new audiences.
We are happy to announce support for the Podcasting 2.0 standard is now available to all our podcast packages.
This greatly enhances the data available to syndication platforms and apps, making it easy to be discovered in the open podcast eco system.
This release also improves several adjacent features, like support for episode chapters, Podping and OP3 integrations, and more.
Supported tags
The Podcasting 2.0 namespace defines a host of additional fields that can be inserted into a show's RSS feed, allowing a much richer display to listeners on other platforms.
We now support the most popular of these fields:
GUID – At the heart of the standard is a globally unique identifier for each show that allows it to be listed on the open PodcastIndex directory. Easily add shows to this directory from our user interface.
Chapters – Chapters is a great way to provide a quick high-level view of an episode's content and especially valuable for long-form audio. Our UI now allows adding episode chapters, including support for Podlove markers which Spotify uses automatically.
Podroll – A very popular feature, allowing publishers to suggest other podcast shows. This can be any show that is listed on PodcastIndex. These are also promoted to listeners on our platform.
Transcript – Attach a transcript to make subtitles available to your audience, a great accessibility feature. Customers can now upload their own SRT or VTT episode transcripts, while at the same time we've upgraded our AI speech-to-text technology to use the latest ChatGPT-based "Whisper" engine to produce cleaner and more accurate results.
Alternate Enclosure - A list of quality levels available on our platform, enabling listeners on supported apps to switch between low, standard and high quality audio.
Podping – Sends a message when new episodes are published for a show, which can reduce the time for it to become available to listeners and the need to constantly poll the feed.
Locked – Supporting platforms will not import a feed that is marked as "locked", protecting it from being used without publisher consent.
Update Frequency – Lets apps and users know how often new episodes are published for a show.
Person – Attach a list of persons involved in the podcast.
Open Podcast Prefix (OP3)
No community integration would be complete without OP3 - the free and open-source podcast prefix analytics service committed to open data and listener privacy. It works similar to our existing Podtrac and Chartable support by adding a prefix to all audio URLs.
All OP3 data is publicly available, see this example.
